This section deals with the physical changes that most teens experience following surgery. This includes the incision scar, numbness, pain, changes in body shape, and back movement. This section also provides tips on how to cope with these issues.
What can I expect the first few months after surgery?
In general, it will take several months for you to feel like you are "back to normal." Many teens report that it takes that long for the pain to go away and for their energy levels to return. Teens usually go back to school after three to six weeks. You may want to start going for half-days and then work up to full days.
Since you did not eat much while you were in hospital, you might find that your appetite is still quite low. This is normal. Start by eating several small meals or snacks a day and gradually build back to normal. You may also notice that you have lost some weight after being in the hospital. The weight will return once you start building up your food intake again.
