What is a Turbuhaler?
A Turbuhaler is a white cylinder with a coloured base. It is used to deliver medication in powder form. To use a Turbuhaler, you must be able to form a seal with your lips around the device and breathe fast and deep enough to get the medication into your lungs.
How to use a Turbuhaler
You can watch the video or follow the steps below to learn how to take medication with a Turbuhaler.
Step 1: Open the Turbuhaler
Unscrew the cover and take it off the Turbuhaler.
Step 2: Get the medication ready
Hold the Turbuhaler with the mouthpiece pointing up. Hold the Turbuhaler in one hand and twist the coloured bottom of the Turbuhaler with the other hand. Twist it as far to the right, or clockwise, as it will go and then twist to the left, or counterclockwise, until you hear a click. The click means the medication is ready.
Step 3: Take the medication
Breathe out away from the Turbuhaler. Put the mouthpiece between your teeth, then wrap your lips around the mouthpiece tightly so that no air can get out. Breathe in as fast and as deeply as you can. Take the Turbuhaler out of your mouth. Hold your breath while you slowly count to 10, if you can. Breathe out slowly through your nose. Repeat steps 2 to 3 if you need to take more puffs.
Step 4: Close the Turbuhaler
Screw the cover back onto the Turbuhaler. Rinse your mouth with water or drink something afterwards.
