What is a Diskus inhaler?
A Diskus inhaler is a flat, round device that is used to deliver medication in powder form. To use a Diskus inhaler, you must be able to form a seal with your lips around the device and breathe fast and deep enough to get the medication into your lungs.
How to use a Diskus inhaler
You can watch the video or follow the steps below to learn how to take medication with a Diskus inhaler.
Step 1: Open the Diskus
Hold the Diskus inhaler in one hand. Put the thumb of your other hand into the thumb grip and push your thumb away until you hear a click. You should be able to see the mouthpiece and the tab beside it.
Step 2: Get the medication ready
Using your thumb slide the tab towards your finger until you hear a click. This means the medication is ready. To prevent the dose from getting lost, do not drop or bang the Diskus inhaler.
Step 3: Take the medication
Breathe out away from the Diskus. Wrap your lips tightly around the mouthpiece of the Diskus inhaler while keeping it in a flat and level position. Breathe in as fast and as deeply as you can. Take the Diskus inhaler out of your mouth. Hold your breath while you slowly count to 10, if you can. Breathe out slowly through your nose. Repeat steps 2 to 3 if you need to take more puffs.
Step 4: Close the Diskus
Close the Diskus inhaler by sliding the thumb grip back to the starting position until you hear a click. The mouthpiece will be hidden and the tab will be reset. The Diskus inhaler is now ready for the next time you need to take your medication.
