My cancer type isn’t on the list
There are many other types of cancer that teenagers can get. We have listed and described the more common ones for teens, but many teens have cancers that are not listed in this session.
If you have a type of cancer that is not in this session, don’t worry. The rest of the sessions in this program will still include a lot of information that will apply to your type of cancer. You will still find information about diagnosis, treatment and dealing with the effects of cancer on your life.
Be sure that you still check the next section on how your cancer will affect you now. It has information for all types of cancer.
If you want to know more about your type of cancer, your best source of information is your health-care team. If you have any questions or if there is anything you do not understand about your cancer, ask your doctors and nurses. They want to help you understand your cancer.
You could ask your doctors or nurses the following questions:
- Where did the type of cancer I have come from?
- How does this type of cancer grow?
- Can the cancer spread?
- What caused this type of cancer?
- What effects does this type of cancer have on my body?
- Any other questions you can think of
If you are nervous about asking the doctors or nurses yourself, you can talk to your parents. They may be able to answer your questions or can help you ask questions when you meet the health-care team.
