Skills modules
This learning hub has six core modules (sections) and two optional modules. Consider completing the optional modules if you have difficulties with sleep and mood.
Weekly skills modules
- Introduction
- Managing stress and emotions
- Relaxation
- Sleep
- Communication and self-advocacy
- Healthy lifestyle
Optional modules
- Insomnia
- Negative emotions
It is best to work through the modules one at a time, in order, and do one module each week. You are currently working through the introduction.
What to expect in each module
- Each module offers information, advice and guidelines to help you better understand and become more skilled at managing your sickle cell pain.
- Near the end of each module is a short quiz. Don't worry—nobody will be keeping score! The quiz is only there to help you find out how much you have learned.
- On the second-last page of each module is a weekly assignment to help you practise the skills you learned.
Sickle cell library
In the sickle cell library (the "About sickle cell disease" tab), you will find information on a range of topics related to sickle cell disease. The information is divided into sections, but you don't need to read them in order, and there are no quizzes. You can go through the sections at your own pace, whenever you are interested, or look them up for more information on a topic.
Remember!
The iCanCope with Sickle Cell Pain program is intended to offer additional support, on top of what you receive from your regular health-care team. The members of your health-care team are still the best people to answer any questions about your medical needs.
